Last weekend was easily one of the most eventful weekends I’ve had in a while! Thanks to the extended Chinese New Year holiday that lasted until Tuesday, I had the perfect excuse to take a break from everything. My initial plan? To spend the entire long weekend mastering video editing. The reality? Well, let’s just say life had other plans.
Saturday: A Self-Care Kind of Day
I kicked things off with a well-deserved self-care session. A full-body massage, a rejuvenating facial, and a much-needed hair treatment? Yes, please! I even got a fresh haircut and treated myself to new makeup and skincare products—because why not? To wrap up my solo pampering day, I enjoyed a peaceful lunch alone before heading home, feeling completely refreshed.
Sunday: A Road Trip Gone Wrong
Sunday, however, took an unexpected turn. At 9:30 a.m., my best friend sent me a message that changed the course of the day:
“Hani! Let’s head to Freeport A’Famosa. I checked on Maps, and it’s only an hour’s drive from here. No traffic jam.”
I was skeptical. Public holidays usually mean massive crowds, but she had been eager to go there all week. So, against my better judgment, I replied:
“Alright, let’s do it.”
Big mistake.
The traffic was horrendous. What should’ve been a one-hour drive turned into a two-hour crawl. To make matters worse, neither of us had eaten before leaving, and we brilliantly decided to skip the rest stops because they were packed. So there we were, stuck in traffic, starving, dehydrated, and running solely on bad decisions. What a clown. 😂
Disappointment on Arrival
We had pictured ourselves enjoying a fantastic lunch at a nice restaurant, only to find out that the dining options were… limited, to say the least. The only proper restaurant was packed, and the two fast-food chains (KFC and Marrybrown) were a definite no-go for us since we had both quit eating fast food. Thankfully, there were plenty of food stalls selling snacks. It wasn’t what we had in mind, but at that point, our stomachs had the final say.
To top it all off, it rained. The entire day was just a series of unfortunate events.
Would We Go Again? Absolutely Not.
It’s safe to say that this was our first and last trip to Freeport A’Famosa. We won’t be coming back. It just didn’t live up to our expectations. If I had to compare, Genting Premium Outlet (GPO) is miles better in terms of shopping, dining options, and overall experience.
That being said, I did manage to snag a new purse after stubbornly holding onto my worn-out one for far too long, so at least there was a small win!
The Silver Lining
If you’re planning to visit just for Instagram-worthy photos, Freeport A’Famosa does have some aesthetically pleasing spots. The place is well-maintained, and I genuinely appreciate how clean everything was, including the restrooms. The janitors were constantly making their rounds, which was impressive given the crowd. While the shopping selection wasn’t particularly exciting, there were still some decent finds at reasonable prices.
Also, let’s not forget the one highlight of the trip—delicious ice cream that made the whole ordeal slightly more bearable.

Until the next (hopefully better) adventure!
X, Hani 💙
