I love soup. Like, really love it. It’s my forever comfort food—the one thing I can always say yes to, even on days when my appetite quietly disappears. When nothing else sounds right, a warm bowl is always there to save the day. Honestly, I could live on it for days… maybe even weeks. Same meal, different bowls, and I’d still be perfectly happy.
Lately, my appetite’s been a little all over the place, and once again, soup came to the rescue. Every day brought a different kind: rich bone soup, classic chicken soup, hearty beef soup, comforting oxtail soup, and light Yong Tau Foo soup. You name it, I probably craved it. So when it was time to eat out, the choice was easy.
That’s how I found myself at AK Noodles House—and my tummy was left very happy and deeply satisfied
✅ What Is AK Noodles House
AK Noodles House is a well-known Malaysian restaurant chain that specialises in authentic fish ball noodles and Yong Tau Foo. The restaurant is especially loved for its fresh, handmade fish balls and crispy fish cakes, served alongside a variety of noodle choices and comforting soup bases. For Muslim diners, it’s also reassuring to know that the chain is Halal-certified, making it accessible to a wider audience.
The brand has its roots in the much-loved Ah Koong Restaurant, a long-standing name in Malaysian fish ball noodles. Ah Koong was founded in 1975 as a family-operated fish ball noodle stall in Taman Sentosa, Johor Bahru. From the very beginning, the focus was on quality—using fresh wolf-herring and yellowtail fish to make fish balls with no preservatives.
Over the years, that dedication to tradition and taste helped Ah Koong grow from a humble stall into a recognised restaurant chain. Today, the brand operates multiple outlets across Malaysia, supported by a team of over 100 employees, while continuing to serve the same comforting flavours that made it a household name.
✅ Where’s It Located?
AK Noodles House currently has 7 outlets, all conveniently located in popular shopping malls:
- City Square, Johor Bahru
- USJ 21, Subang Jaya
- IOI City Mall
- 1 Utama Shopping Mall
- Tropicana City Mall
- Evolve Concept Mall, Ara Damansara
- Damansara City Mall (DC Mall)
Being mall-based makes it easy to find and very accessible, whether you’re already out shopping or simply looking for a comfortable place to eat. The dining space is clean, bright, and casual—perfect for a quick lunch, a relaxed dinner, or even a solo meal when you’re just in the mood for soup.
There’s no need to dress up or plan ahead. It’s very much a walk-in, sit-down, and enjoy kind of place, which makes it ideal for everyday comfort meals.

✅ What’s On the Menu?
At AK Noodles House, the focus is very much on soup-based dishes, with plenty of options to suit different tastes. You can choose from a variety of noodle types—so whether you prefer something light or more filling, there’s something for everyone.
When my partner and I visited, we didn’t spend much time studying the menu. We went straight for the Yong Tau Foo, where you get to personally pick your own ingredients. You can choose from fresh meatballs, fish balls, tofu, vegetables, seafood and more, letting you create a bowl exactly the way you like it. For the soup, I chose tom yum soup paired with kway teow noodles, while my partner went for the clear soup with the same noodles.
I’m not sure if menu items like tom yum soup, curry noodles, and rice dishes vary by outlet, but you can check out their full menu [here] for a better idea of what’s available.
✅ My Take On The Flavor
I’m very fussy when it comes to tom yum soup, because it’s one of my favorite soups. At AK Noodles House, their tom yum soup did not disappoint. The flavor hits all the right notes—tangy, spicy, and full-bodied—and when combined with the fresh ingredients and noodles, I finished my bowl down to the very last drop.
My partner went for the clear soup, which was light, soothing, and especially comforting while still hot. He also added oysters, and the restaurant served them in a separate bowl with some soup, so the flavor didn’t overpower the noodle bowl—something I really appreciated for their thoughtful approach. While I’m not a fan of oysters myself, I still enjoyed tasting my partner’s bowl alongside mine.
Another thing I loved: all the ingredients were very fresh, which made every bite feel wholesome and satisfying.

✅ How Much Is The Price?
I’d say AK Noodles House is generally affordable, but it really depends on what you order. For Yong Tau Foo, each ingredient is priced individually, so if you’re not careful (or get a little too excited picking ingredients 😅), the total can end up higher than expected.
For both my partner’s bowl and mine, the total came up to RM90.00, which honestly surprised us. My bowl was definitely more expensive since I picked more ingredients. After checking the receipt, we realised I had also chosen one of the priciest ingredients on the menu. 🤣
That said, for the taste and quality, the money felt well spent. It’s not the kind of place I’d visit very often, but it’s great for an occasional, comforting meal.

✅ Final Thoughts
Would I go again?
Yes.
AK Noodles House serves good, comforting food made with handmade fish balls and very fresh ingredients. While it can be on the pricier side depending on your choices, the quality really shows in the taste.
If you’re craving a satisfying bowl of soup—especially fish ball noodles or Yong Tau Foo—this is a place worth trying at least once. Sometimes, a good bowl of soup is all you need, and AK Noodles House delivers exactly that. 🍜✨
