If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably experienced those moments when you stand in front of your closet, staring blankly at the multitude of clothes, feeling utterly lost on what to wear. I know I have! 😂 It’s like navigating a maze of clothes, colors, and styles, and the choices can be overwhelming. “I have nothing to wear” – yup! We women are all too familiar with this phrase.
In the past, what stopped me from dressing up was the lack of money to buy fashionable clothes. My style used to revolve mostly around simple, casual outfits like lovely summer dresses or a good pair of jeans paired with a basic top. However, as time went on, I felt a burning desire to upgrade my look and show a more classy and elegant vibe. It was then that I decided to take a step towards refining my style by attending online etiquette classes. Through this, I delved into the world of basic elegance knowledge and fell in love with a more sophisticated lifestyle.
Now, fear not! With the valuable knowledge I’ve gained, I’m here to share with you 7 quick outfit tips I use to achieve a classy and elegant look. These tips have become my go-to lifesavers, transforming my approach to fashion and helping me upgrade my look without any fuss. With just a little know-how, you too can unlock the secrets to looking classy and elegant every time you step out the door.
✅ Wear Monochrome
One of my favourite ways to create a classy and elegant outfit is to wear monochrome. There’s something about dressing in one colour from head to toe that instantly makes an outfit look more polished. It doesn’t have to be complicated either. It can be an all-white outfit, all-black, or even a stronger colour like red.
Red can look incredibly elegant when styled simply, while softer pastel shades can give you that traditional, feminine charm. Just be careful with going too far with the girly details, as too much sweetness can take away from the sophisticated look you’re trying to create.
For me, white and black are the easiest places to start.
- All-white outfits: Think white skirts, trousers, blouses, basic shirts or dresses. An elegant white dress is definitely one of those pieces I think every woman should have in her wardrobe. It’s easy to style and can work for anything from brunch with friends to a more formal occasion.

- All-black outfits: No wardrobe feels complete without the Little Black Dress (LBD). It’s one of those pieces that has stayed timeless for a reason. You can wear it during the day, dress it up for the evening, and completely change the look just by switching your shoes, bag or accessories. The same idea applies to the rest of your wardrobe too. Having black skirts, trousers, blouses and basic tops gives you plenty of options when you want to put together something simple but polished.

I would also pay attention to colours that naturally have an expensive-looking feel. Think of colours inspired by nature. Brown, beige, khaki, off-white, grey and military green are great examples. They’re easy to mix and match, and they tend to give an outfit that understated, classy feel without needing a lot of accessories.
✅ Shirtdresses
A shirtdress is one of my favourite outfit choices when I want to look classy and elegant without putting too much thought into what I’m wearing. It gives you that polished look while still feeling comfortable and effortless.
What I love about a shirtdress is its shape. The cinched waist and flowing skirt can create a flattering silhouette without making the outfit feel overly formal. It’s one of those pieces you can simply put on and already feel like you’ve made an effort.
If I’m dressing up, I can pair it with heels and some statement jewellery for a more polished look. For something casual, sandals and a sunhat can completely change the mood.
That’s what makes a shirtdress such a useful piece in a wardrobe. You don’t need to overthink it. The dress does most of the work for you.

✅ Grab A Blazer
If there’s one piece that can instantly make a simple outfit look more put-together, it’s a good blazer.
A well-tailored blazer has a way of making even the most basic outfit look more polished. You could be wearing a simple top and trousers, but add a blazer and suddenly the whole outfit feels more intentional.
That’s why I think a blazer is worth having in your wardrobe. You can style it in so many different ways, from a classic black blazer to softer pastel shades depending on your personal style.
Wear one to a professional meeting, throw it over an outfit for dinner, or simply use it when your everyday look feels a little too basic.
Sometimes, you don’t need a completely new outfit. You just need a blazer.

✅ High Neck Top
If you want to look elegant while staying warm and comfortable, a high-neck top is one of the easiest pieces to reach for.
A high-neck top has a classic, polished feel that works with so many outfits. You can wear a cosy sweater for a casual look or choose a more fitted version to layer underneath a dress or blazer. Either way, it gives your outfit a clean and put-together finish without requiring much effort.
I especially love high-neck tops when travelling to colder places because they keep me warm without making my outfit look bulky. The higher neckline also creates a sleek silhouette, which looks lovely with simple accessories.
For a timeless outfit, pair a high-neck top with tailored trousers or a high-waisted skirt. Add a statement necklace or a silk scarf if you want to bring a little more detail to the look.
It’s comfortable, practical and elegant. That’s a pretty good combination in my book.

✅ Satin Shirts or Blouses
A satin shirt is another piece I reach for when I want my outfit to look a little more elevated. The soft sheen of satin immediately gives an outfit a more luxurious feel, even when the rest of the outfit is kept simple.
You can go for a classic button-down satin shirt or a flowy blouse, depending on your style. I like that it can work for both day and night without feeling too formal.
For an office outfit, tuck a satin shirt into tailored trousers and add a blazer. If you’re dressing up for the evening, pair it with a pencil skirt or tailored shorts and add a few elegant accessories.
There is something about the smooth texture of satin that adds a subtle touch of sensuality too. It can look feminine and polished without having to show too much skin, which makes it a lovely option for a date night or formal occasion.

✅ Tailored trousers
Tailored trousers are one of those wardrobe pieces that can make you look polished almost instantly. When the fit is right, they create a clean and flattering silhouette that makes the entire outfit feel more refined.
I like having them in classic black and neutral shades because they’re incredibly easy to style, but you can always experiment with bolder colours if that’s more your thing.
For a chic office look, pair tailored trousers with a crisp button-down shirt and blazer. Add statement jewellery and elegant heels if you want to make the outfit feel a little more glamorous.
For something more relaxed, wide-leg tailored trousers work beautifully with a tucked-in blouse or fitted sweater.
The important thing is really the fit. A pair of trousers that fits you well can do more for your outfit than a wardrobe full of trendy pieces.

✅ Flattering Clothes
Finally, one of the most important things I’ve learned about dressing elegantly is that you need to wear clothes that actually flatter you.
You’ve got to find pieces that fit you well, look good on you and suit your body shape. It sounds simple, but the right fit can completely change the way an outfit looks.
A flattering dress is a great example. It can highlight your best features and create a beautiful silhouette without requiring much styling at all. You could choose a fitted sheath dress, a flowing A-line dress or a wrap dress. The style itself matters less than finding something that works with your body and makes you feel comfortable.
Because that’s really the point of all these outfit tips. Looking classy isn’t about squeezing yourself into clothes just because they’re considered fashionable. It’s about finding clothes that make you feel confident, comfortable and like yourself.

Remember, achieving a classy and elegant look doesn’t have to be complicated. You don’t need a huge wardrobe or a closet full of expensive designer pieces. Start with a few pieces that work well for you, learn how to put them together, and pay attention to the little details.
Sometimes, looking elegant really is that simple.
Love,
Auri Duham 🌻
