I’m a massive fan of Korean chicken, like… it’s my ultimate comfort food. I don’t know what it is, but there’s something about Korean chicken that just hits differently. I’m obsessed. And don’t even get me started on the flavour range: sweet, spicy, cheesy, garlicky… all dangerously addictive.
And here’s the plot twist: I used to not even like cheese, or at least, I’m very picky about it. Shocking, I know. But Korean chicken with cheese? It’s magic. Somehow, the richness of the cheese just melts perfectly into the bold flavours of the chicken. No weird aftertaste. Just creamy goodness that works. But most of the time, for Korean chicken, I’ll always go for the spiciest option on the menu (with or without cheese).
This time, I decided to switch things up and go for a healthier version of Korean chicken without compromising on taste. So I went to this Korean eatery called Oppadak, a spot known for their oven-baked Korean chicken.
✅ Fun fact: What’s Oppadak?
“Oppadak” means “oven‑eh bbajeen dak”, which literally means “chicken that fell in the oven” It’s a playful nod to their signature method: zero-oil baking that locks in juicy goodness without the grease. No deep frying, no oil splashing. Just crisp skin and moist meat, the healthy way.
Oppadak delivers that beloved K-style chicken experience with less trans fat, sodium, and carbs—but all the flavour and crunch is still there. Guilt-free, but still satisfying? Yes, please.
They’ve got a few outlets here in Malaysia, but I went to the one at IOI City Mall Putrajaya since it’s closer to home. The vibe is so authentically Korean: the music, the hanbok, the staff uniforms… I’ll get into that in a bit.
✅ What I Ordered
I went for their 2-in-1 platter (RM36.90), one of their bestsellers, and honestly, it’s a perfect shareable feast for two.
Here’s what came on the platter:
- 2 pcs roasted drumettes
- 2 pcs roasted wingettes
- 6 pcs baked boneless thighs
Now the best part? You get to choose the flavour. Here’s the full 7-flavour lineup:
- Original
- Soy Sauce Baked
- Dakgangjeong Peanut Baked
- Sweet & Spicy Baked
- Cheese Sprinkle Baked (add RM1)
- Spicy Yangnyeom Baked
- Spicy Cheese Sprinkle Baked (add RM1)
✨ My pick?
✔ Sweet & Spicy Baked for the roasted pieces (classic combo, can’t go wrong)
✔ Spicy Yangnyeom Baked for the boneless thighs (because duh, ‘spicy’)
Both flavours were chef’s kiss. The sauces weren’t just slapped on; they clung to the chicken like they belonged there. Every bite was coated, bold, and addictive.
✅ Drinks & Dessert Temptations
To keep it light, I went with a hot green tea. Trying to make healthier choices, okay! 😂 Though, their mocktails were seriously tempting—we’re talking colourful, creative blends like Yuzu Mint, Blue Melon Lychee, Lychee Blue… I was this close to saying screw it and going full-on sugar mode, but I stayed strong this time. Next round? We’ll see. 👀
And just when I thought I had made it past temptation, the dessert hit me. The table next to me had this glorious-looking mango dessert—I think it’s called bingsu? It looked like a whole mountain of mango ice cream, served in this big, dreamy bowl. I couldn’t stop stealing glances. The portion was huge, and the presentation was straight-up gorgeous. It took everything in me not to order one for myself.
✅ First Bite Thoughts
Now to the most important part, was the chicken any good? Short answer: YES. Long answer: crispy skin, juicy meat, and bold flavour in every bite. Both the roasted and baked versions delivered, and I was honestly surprised at how much flavour the oven method locked in. They leaned slightly dry in texture, but nothing off-putting. The chicken was still juicy enough and well-seasoned. No disappointment here.
The Sweet & Spicy flavour for the roasted pieces brought a delicious tangy heat, a perfect mix of heat and sweetness, while the Spicy Yangnyeom for the baked boneless thighs had that bold, balanced kick; spicy, but still totally manageable.
I wouldn’t say I noticed a huge difference between roasted and baked, except that the baked ones felt a bit lighter and definitely less oily, which I really appreciated.
I was sure that 10 pieces wouldn’t be enough (because when is it ever??), but it actually filled both me and my partner just right. 5 pieces each, and we were good. Well… almost good. We definitely had room for more, but we decided to leave space for snacks and dessert later.
✅ Price & Value
So, is Oppadak affordable? I’d say it falls right into that mid-range zone. Not super cheap, but not crazy expensive either. A single meal will set you back around RM20–30, which is pretty standard for a fast-casual eatery in a mall.
The platter does cost more, but if you’re sharing with a friend or in a group, it’s honestly great value. You get more variety, more pieces, and more fun trying out different flavours together. Definitely worth it if you’re not dining solo.

✅ Ambience & Vibe
Oppadak totally nails the Korean vibe.
They offer a free hanbok experience! Yup, right at the entrance, you’ll find a clothing rack of traditional Korean outfits that you can wear while you eat or snap a few cute pics. It adds such a fun, immersive touch to the whole visit.
Even the staff were dressed in hanbok, which made me feel like I’d been transported to a cozy little restaurant in Seoul. Add in the Korean songs playing softly in the background, the warm lighting, and the gentle hum of people chatting and laughing, and you’ve got that laid-back mall eatery vibe with a lovely cultural twist.
Such a cute, comfy spot. I loved it.
Final Thoughts
So… would I go back?
Absolutely. Especially when I’m trying to eat a little cleaner without sacrificing flavour. Oppadak is the perfect go-to for those Korean chicken cravings that don’t come with a side of guilt.
Oppadak’s baked chicken strikes the perfect balance: less oily, just as juicy, and richly flavoured. They prove that you can go the healthy route and still get juicy, saucy, spicy perfection on your plate. Whether you’re into fiery spice, cheesy indulgence, or tangy sweetness, there’s a flavour for you.
If you’re craving bold flavours with a fun cultural twist, Oppadak’s the place. Pair it with hanbok fun and good vibes, and suddenly you’re not just having a meal, you’re on a mini escape to Korea.
You’ve gotta try it for yourself!
Till next bite,
