Cheese naan lovers, if you think you’ve had good naan at your regular Mamak spot, wait until you try this—a true hidden gem serving authentic Pakistani naan that’s rich in flavor, generously stuffed with cheese, and baked to perfection.
The place I’m talking about is De Tandoor. Tucked away in Taman Kajang Utama, this hidden gem offers one of the best cheese naans I’ve ever had! It’s the closest match in both taste and quality to my all-time favorite naan spot, Tandoori Hut in Ampang. But since that’s quite a distance, De Tandoor is the perfect alternative—and trust me, it does not disappoint!
The Location
De Tandoor is a corner-side eatery at a local food court in Taman Kajang Utama. It offers a comfortable, laid-back open-air setting, perfect for a casual meal. What I love most about this place is its relaxed, crowd-free atmosphere. You can sit back, enjoy your meal, and savour every bite without feeling rushed.
Parking? No hassle at all! You can park anywhere nearby along the roadside for free—so no extra costs cutting into your food budget!
The Menu
Now, let’s talk about the real reason I came here—THE FOOD! And trust me, this place delivers big on flavour!
Cheese Naan
This one’s a must-try! Generously packed with melted cheese, every bite is a heavenly mix of soft, fluffy bread and a rich, melty center. Unlike some places that skimp on cheese, De Tandoor goes all out, ensuring you get that satisfying cheese pull with every bite. The edges have a slight crisp, adding a nice contrast in texture.
To elevate the flavors, I dipped it in their hari chutney (green chutney)—a refreshing, zesty sauce made from cilantro, mint, and green chilies. The chutney’s bright, herby flavors balanced out the richness of the naan perfectly. They also serve it with dal gravy, but since I’m not a huge fan, I requested curry instead—and it was a great choice! The curry was flavorful, well-spiced, and rich, pairing beautifully with the naan.
Tandoori Chicken
I always pair cheese naan with tandoori chicken—it’s a match made in heaven! Seriously, the combination is just unbeatable. The chicken has this beautifully charred exterior with a vibrant reddish-orange hue, thanks to its rich marinade packed with aromatic spices and yogurt. Cooked over high heat, it develops a slightly crisp, smoky crust while remaining incredibly juicy inside. The intense heat enhances the flavors, infusing the chicken with a deep, smoky aroma. Served sizzling hot, it’s pure perfection!
Here’s a pro tip: don’t skip the lime squeeze! The burst of citrus brightens the seasoning, adding a tangy kick that elevates every bite. Paired with crisp onions and refreshing cucumber slices, it’s the perfect balance of smoky, spicy, and zesty flavors.
Chapati
I also tried their chapati, and it was just as impressive. Soft, well-cooked, and just the right texture—not too chewy, not too brittle.
Chapati is usually served with curry, though some places offer it with sambal sardine (a combination I personally love). However, at De Tandoor, it comes with dhal gravy—which isn’t my favorite—so I requested curry instead, and I’m so glad I did!
If you’re looking for something lighter than naan, this is a great option!
Other Must-Try Dishes
While the cheese naan and tandoori chicken were the highlights of my visit, De Tandoor has plenty of other delicious Pakistani dishes to explore. Check out their full menu here: De Tandoor Menu
Generous Portions & Affordable Prices
One of the best things about De Tandoor is the incredible value for money. The portions are generous, ensuring you leave with a full and satisfied stomach. Whether you’re indulging in their cheese naan, savoring the smoky tandoori chicken, or digging into a fragrant plate of biryani, each serving is well-sized—perfect for sharing or enjoying all by yourself if you’re extra hungry!
Despite the high-quality and authentic flavors, the prices remain surprisingly affordable. You get restaurant-quality Pakistani cuisine at food court prices, making it a fantastic spot for budget-friendly dining. It’s rare to find a place that balances both generous portions and rich flavors without breaking the bank, but De Tandoor does exactly that!
Final Thoughts
If you’re in Kajang (or even if you’re not), this place is worth the trip. It really deserves a spot on your must-try list!
Would I come back? Absolutely!
