Bowl N Roll: A Taste of Thailand & Vietnam Under One Roof

Bowl N Roll: A Taste of Thailand & Vietnam Under One Roof

Vietnamese cuisine has always been one of my favourites. I love how healthy it feels without ever being boring. Fresh herbs, comforting broths, plenty of vegetables, and dishes that taste so good despite being made with such simple ingredients.

No wonder the Vietnamese seem to have such great figures!

Pho, in particular, will always have a special place in my heart. It’s one of those meals I never seem to get tired of ordering, no matter how many times I’ve had it.

I still remember visiting Vietnam years ago and being surprised by how delicious even the simplest dishes could be. Nothing felt overly complicated, yet every meal somehow left a lasting impression on me. It’s one of the reasons I keep coming back to Vietnamese food whenever I’m craving something comforting and wholesome.

So, when I heard about Bowl N Roll, I knew I had to give it a try.

✅ About Bowl N Roll

Bowl N Roll is a halal restaurant under the same company behind Nippon Sushi, bringing together the flavours inspired by both Hanoi and Bangkok under one roof. Instead of focusing solely on Vietnamese cuisine, the menu also features a selection of Thai favourites, making it an excellent choice when everyone at the table is craving something a little different.

One thing that immediately caught my attention was their menu book. Rather than using the usual laminated menu, it was designed to resemble an old newspaper, which I thought was such a fun and thoughtful touch. I don’t think I’ve ever come across anything quite like it before.

I also didn’t expect the menu to be so extensive. I found myself spending quite some time flipping through the pages before finally deciding what to order.

The Menu & What We Ordered

You’ll find everything from pho, dry noodles, summer rolls, and banh mi to Thai favourites such as Pad Thai, Green Curry, Tom Yum Pot, Thai Milk Tea, and various desserts from both Thai and Vietnamese cuisine.

I quite like this concept because there’s something for everyone. Even if you’re dining with someone who isn’t particularly fond of Vietnamese food, they’ll still have plenty of Thai dishes to choose from.

For our lunch, we decided to order:

  • Lemongrass Chicken Dry Noodle
  • Beef Pho Bo
  • Two Vietnamese Coffees with Milk

  • Beef Pho Bo

The broth was light without being overly salty, accompanied by tender slices of beef, bean sprouts, chopped coriander, and silky smooth rice noodles that were easy to slurp. The bowl also comes with lime, fresh chillies, and chilli paste, allowing you to adjust the flavours to your liking.

The portion was generous and made for a satisfying meal on its own.

While it may not have taken the top spot as my favourite pho in Malaysia, it was still warm, comforting, and thoroughly enjoyable.

Super Saigon remains my personal favourite when it comes to pho, largely because I find its broth slightly richer and more flavourful. That said, I would happily order Bowl N Roll’s version again if I found myself dining here.

  • Lemongrass Chicken Dry Noodle

Served with fresh vegetables such as chopped lettuce, cucumber, bean sprouts, basil, and shredded carrots alongside vermicelli noodles topped with lemongrass chicken, it definitely falls on the healthier side of comfort food. It also comes with fish sauce and chopped garlic, which add an extra layer of flavour when mixed through the noodles.

The noodles themselves were refreshing while the lemongrass seasoning added a lovely fragrant note to the dish. Once mixed together, everything came together beautifully without feeling heavy or oily.

My only small complaint would be the chicken itself. I found it to be slightly dry, which prevented the dish from becoming something truly memorable for me.

It’s good and healthy, but it wasn’t necessarily a dish that made me go, “Oh my goodness, I need to order this again next time.”

Still, I really appreciated how well-balanced it was.

  • Vietnamese Coffee with Milk

Ever since I learned to appreciate coffee (which took me many years, by the way), Vietnamese coffee has slowly become one of my favourites too.

Traditionally brewed using a small metal filter called a phin, Vietnamese coffee is made by slowly dripping strong coffee into a cup of sweetened condensed milk before being stirred together and served either hot or cold. The result is a smooth, creamy cup of coffee that’s beautifully balanced between bitterness and sweetness.

It was excellent. Exactly how I expected it to be.

If I had to pick one thing from the meal that I’d happily order again, it would probably be the Vietnamese coffee.

✅ The Dining Experience

One of the things I appreciated most about Bowl N Roll was how comfortable the dining space felt. The restaurant is spacious, with plenty of seating available.

I particularly liked the booth-style seating, which gave the space a cozy and relaxed feel without making it feel cramped. The warm lighting paired with the wooden tables and soft neutral tones made the restaurant feel welcoming and comfortable from the moment we walked in.

One thing worth mentioning (especially if you’re someone who’s always cold like me) is that the dining area was freezing! The air-conditioning was definitely working overtime that day. 😂

Although Bowl N Roll is located in a shoplot, the space feels bright and open rather than crowded. It’s the kind of place where you can comfortably linger over your meal without feeling rushed, which I always appreciate when dining out.

Is Bowl N Roll Worth The Price?

The pricing here falls within what I would consider reasonable for casual dining. Most of the main dishes range between RM16 and RM25, while beverages are generally priced under RM15.

Considering the portion sizes, comfortable dining environment, and the variety of dishes available, I think the prices are fair.

Is it the cheapest Vietnamese restaurant you’ll find? Probably not.

But I would say it’s still value for money, especially if you’re looking for somewhere casual to catch up with friends or enjoy a relaxing lunch. With both Thai and Vietnamese dishes on the menu, you’ll also have plenty of options to choose from, making it easy to cater to different cravings at the same table.

✅ Location & Opening Hours

Bowl N Roll has several outlets across Malaysia, including Bandar Baru Bangi, Kajang, Seremban Gateway, and Metro Point Kajang. For this visit, I had my lunch at their Bandar Baru Bangi branch.

Bowl N Roll (Bandar Baru Bangi)

  • Opening Hours: Daily, 12 PM to 9 PM (hours may vary on certain days)
  • Location: Bandar Baru Bangi, Selangor

If Bandar Baru Bangi isn’t the most convenient location for you, it’s worth checking out their other outlets as well before visiting.

✅ Would I Recommend Bowl N Roll?

After we finished our meal, we didn’t really talk about coming back immediately.

It wasn’t one of those places where I found myself saying, “We have to come here again.” Instead, it felt more like an enjoyable experience that I’m glad I had.

Would I recommend giving it a try? Absolutely.

I think Bowl N Roll is worth visiting, especially if you enjoy both Thai and Vietnamese cuisine or simply want something lighter without compromising on taste. The extensive menu also makes it a great option when you’re dining with family or friends who have different cravings.

As for whether I’ll come back again? I wouldn’t rule it out. In fact, I’d happily return for another cup of their Vietnamese coffee and perhaps explore some of the other dishes on their menu.

Bowl N Roll may not have become my favourite Vietnamese restaurant just yet, but I can certainly appreciate what it brings to the table.
