My Top 3 Mocha Picks in Malaysia That Even Non-Coffee Lovers Will Crave

I’ve never been a big coffee drinker. The bitterness? Just not my thing. I’ve tried—really tried—to like it… but nope. My taste buds weren’t having it.

Then one day, a good friend handed me a mocha and called it a coffee loophole” for people like me who don’t enjoy coffee.

Honestly? He wasn’t wrong. One sip, and I was sold. I couldn’t believe how much I actually liked it. It was like coffee and chocolate teamed up to create something smooth, rich, and ridiculously delicious.

And just like that, a quiet little mocha obsession began.

Since then, I’ve been on a mission to find the onethe best mocha out there. I’ve tried all the usual spots: Starbucks, Coffee Bean, Gloria Jean’s, Richiamo, San Francisco Coffeeand while they were okay, none of them made me go, Wow, this is it.”

I wanted something:

  • More memorable

  • Less bitter

  • More chocolatey

  • Still gave off that cozy, comforting coffee aroma

After all that sipping and taste-testing, I finally found 3 mochas I absolutely love.

So, whether you’re a mocha fan or just mocha-curious, let me introduce you to the ones that completely stole my heart.

1. Kenangan Coffee’s Mocha

If comfort had a flavour, I’m convinced it would taste like Kenangan Coffee’s mocha. The moment I take a sip, it feels like everything slows down for a second, in the best way. The chocolate is rich and full-bodied, with a flavour that reminds me of real melted dark chocolate—not the overly sweet kind. It’s smooth, deep, and just sweet enough to feel indulgent without being cloying.

Then comes the coffee—subtle but steady. It doesn’t fight for attention. Instead, it quietly supports the chocolate, adding depth and a gentle roasted warmth. The two flavours are perfectly in sync, creating a drink that feels thoughtful and well-crafted, not just thrown together.

What makes this mocha stand out from all the others I’ve tried is the balance and texture. So many mochas are either too sugary or too bitter, but this one walks the line beautifully. It’s silky, never watery or overly thick, and there’s no chalky aftertaste—just a clean, satisfying finish that makes you want another sip.

And here’s what I appreciate most: it never lets me down. Whether I’m ordering at a city mall or a quiet suburban outlet, it tastes exactly how I remember it. That kind of consistency is rare, and it’s what keeps me coming back.

On days when I need a refreshing treat, I’ll go for the Iced Mocha Chip topped with vanilla whipped cream. But recently, the Hot Mocha has been my go-to. There’s something grounding about wrapping my hands around a warm cup and letting that cozy, chocolate-coffee aroma fill the air.

2. Kopi Saigon’s Mocha

I’ll be honest—I wasn’t expecting much when I first stepped into Kopi Saigon because I had never heard of it before. It was a spontaneous stop, one of those “let’s just try it and see” moments. But wow… I walked out completely converted.

This mocha didn’t just impress me—it made a statement.

While it shares some similarities with Kenangan’s mocha—smooth texture, solid chocolate-coffee blend—Kopi Saigon’s version has its own personality. It’s bolder, slightly intense, and sweeter than Kenangan’s, yet it still lets the coffee shine through without being bitter. From the very first sip, it grabs my attention and doesn’t let go.

What surprised me most was how quickly it grew on me. I couldn’t stop talking about it. For days, I kept bringing it up in conversations, reliving that first sip like it was a major life event. My partner, slightly amused (and slightly tired of hearing about it), ended up surprising me with another cup—and I think that’s when I realised: this mocha had officially won me over.

It may have started as a casual discovery, but now? It’s one of my favourites. Unexpected, memorable, and seriously satisfying.

3. Zus Cafe Mocha

Unlike Kenangan or Kopi Saigon, which are more chocolate-heavy, Zus leans more toward the coffee side of mocha, but the chocolate still holds its ground. It adds just enough richness to soften the coffee’s boldness. The result? A mocha that’s balanced and smooth, with just a hint of bitterness that, surprisingly, really works for me.

Plus, Zus is everywhere. They have branches even in quieter towns. I remember being in Ipoh, craving a good mocha but couldn’t spot a Kenangan or a Kopi Saigon anywhere nearby. Then I saw Zus, and without a second thought, it became my pick.

It may not be the most indulgent, but when I’m craving something a little lighter, more balanced, yet still chocolatey enough to satisfy, Zus never disappoints.

🏁Final Thoughts: Which One Wins?

Each of these mochas has something special. But if I had to choose a favourite…

  • 🥇 Kenangan Coffee – My all-time love. The one I keep coming back to, cup after cup. Rich, comforting, and—most importantly—unfailingly consistent, no matter where I order it.

  • 🥈 Kopi Saigon – Bold, exciting, and full of personality. It truly surprised me in the best way. The only catch? It’s not always consistent across outlets, but when it’s good, it’s really good.

  • 🥉 Zus – Smooth, balanced, and just the right amount of coffee-forward. It’s my reliable go-to when I’m in the mood for something a little lighter, but still chocolatey enough to satisfy.

So, my advice?

Try them all! Each one has its own charm, and who knows—you might fall in love with a different favourite.
