If you’re planning a trip to Ipoh, Perak, you’ve probably heard of the Sunway Lost World of Tambun – one of the most popular theme parks in Malaysia. This place has evolved so much since it first opened. If it’s been a few years since your last visit, trust me – it’s no longer the same park you remember!
I recently visited Lost World for the third time – my last visit was in 2015 – and I was so impressed by how much it has changed, especially for animal lovers. Since the park is really close to my hometown, I couldn’t resist going back again.
🎟️ Ticket Info: For up-to-date pricing, check the official site: Lost World Entrance Ticket.
For some people, the Lost World ticket price might seem expensive. But for me, once you’re inside, you’ll feel like the money you paid is totally worth it (Seriously!). If you’re wondering what’s so fun at Sunway Lost World of Tambun, okay—today I’ll share everything with you. Make sure to read this post till the end!
1. Splash Like Crazy at the Water Park
The first thing you’ll notice when you enter the park is the Waterpark – and it’s MASSIVE! It’s divided into 6 zones:
🌊 Jungle Wave Pool (Malaysia’s biggest!),
🏞️ Adventure River,
🏖️ Sandy Bay,
🧒 Kids Explorabay,
🌀 Cliff Racer, and
🚣 Tube Raiders.
What I love about this place is that there’s no time limit. You’re not being rushed out after a couple of hours. If you want to swim from morning till the sun goes down—go for it! The lifeguards? They’re everywhere – and yes, they’re pretty good-looking too 😉 Safety? No worries.
2. Meet & Greet With Animals at the Petting Zoo
Even as an adult, I couldn’t hide my excitement. There’s just something so pure and joyful about getting up close to animals. I got to pet rabbits, raccoons, hedgehogs, and even some friendly birds! Most of us are used to only cuddling our cats at home (me included), but here, you get to meet animals you don’t see every day. Even if you can’t pet all of them, just seeing them up close is such a wholesome experience.
3. Touch a Giraffe Without Flying to Africa!
This was one of my highlights–I finally got to pet a giraffe! This wasn’t available a few years back, so it was such a happy surprise. You can imagine my face when I saw it standing right there in front of me. My heart literally melted.
You can even feed the giraffe for just RM2! I didn’t have cash on me that day (classic me), but the giraffe still came over and let me pet its head. I swear, it was like it could feel how much I wanted to connect with it. I used to think I’d have to fly to Africa just to fulfil this dream. Turns out, all I needed was a trip back to the Lost World Tambun. 😍
4. Soak Your Stress Away in the Hot Springs
After a long day of walking and exploring the waterpark, nothing beats the bliss of soaking in a warm natural hot spring. I was honestly counting down the hours until I could dip my tired body into that steamy water—and let me tell you, it was worth the wait. The hot spring area has several pools with different temperatures. You can pick the one that suits your comfort level—from warm and relaxing to sizzling hot (but so satisfying!).
You can check out more about it here: Lost World Hot Spring and Spa by Night
5. Cat Lovers, Don’t Miss Catopia!
If you love cats (like I do!)—this one’s for you! Just a short walk from the Petting Zoo is Catopia, a cozy, air-conditioned space dedicated to our feline friends. I couldn’t resist popping in (of course!) and spending time with some of the fluffiest, chunkiest, and most well-behaved cats ever.
You can cuddle them, snap cute selfies, and just soak in their adorable presence. These cats are friendly, pampered, and clearly living their best lives. One of them was so heavy I actually struggled to lift it—real cat-mom problems, haha! But honestly, every second was pure joy.
6. Float Along the Longest Man-Made Adventure River in Southeast Asia
Try the Adventure River, especially with a float (available for rent at RM5–RM10). You can enjoy the waves, passing lush greenery, soaking up the whole tropical vibe, and most importantly, explore the river more comfortably.
Pro tip: bring around RM30 in your pocket for rentals and snacks. I forgot to bring spare cash after locking up my bag, so I had to swim manually. Still fun—but with a float, it would’ve been so much better!
7. Enjoy Nature at the Rainforest Trail
Take a peaceful walk through the Rainforest Trail. It’s a scenic trail surrounded by lush greenery, chirping birds, and the occasional monkey. I didn’t see the monkeys when I went (they were probably napping), but I heard that the park staff feeds them around 3 PM daily. So, time your walk for then if you want to catch them in action!
8. Explore the Creepy-Cool Tarantula Alley
Right next to the Rainforest Trail is Tarantula Alley. This mini-exhibit gives you a fascinating look into the world of tarantulas. You’ll learn about different species and even get to observe them up close—behind safe glass, of course. It’s a cool (and educational) experience.
I couldn’t get a clear photo of the spiders, but I did manage to take my photo at the entrance! 😂
🎭 Bonus: Don’t Miss the Daily Shows & Activities!
There’s so much more to see beyond the main attractions. Lost World of Tambun also hosts daily live shows, cultural performances, fire eaters, and even animal feeding sessions. Each day is packed with activities, so be sure to check the showtimes online or at the entrance.
You can buy tickets online or at the entrance – no advance booking needed (unless it’s during school holidays or public holidays).
✨ Note: The park is closed every Tuesday, except during school holidays and public holidays.
