How Grammarly Helps Me Fix Grammar Mistakes & Improve Writing

As someone who writes daily for my blog and poetry, I always seek ways to refine my writing and enhance my language skills. Since English is not my native language, I often rely on tools to help me detect grammar errors and improve my overall writing quality. Over time, Grammarly has become my go-to writing assistant, helping me catch mistakes and offering suggestions to enhance clarity and coherence.

While I also use another tool for sentence structure improvement and paraphrasing—which I will discuss in a future blog post—this article will focus on the impact Grammarly has had on my writing journey.

What is Grammarly?

Grammarly is an advanced writing assistant designed to catch grammar, spelling, and punctuation mistakes in real-time. Available as a browser extension, a desktop application, and a web-based editor, Grammarly seamlessly integrates into various platforms, including Google Docs, Gmail, and even messaging apps like WhatsApp.

Beyond basic grammar checks, Grammarly provides insightful suggestions to improve writing style, conciseness, and tone. Whether you’re writing an email, a blog post, or even creative poetry, Grammarly acts as an intelligent proofreader that helps refine your writing for better readability and impact.

Here are some examples of how I use Grammarly during the writing process:

How Grammarly Helps Me as a Non-Native English Speaker

As a non-native English speaker, I sometimes struggle with complex grammar rules, homophones, and sentence structures. Grammarly has been instrumental in bridging this gap by:

  • Detecting grammar and punctuation mistakes I might overlook.
  • Suggesting more precise and impactful word choices.
  • Improving sentence clarity by recommending alternative phrasings.
  • Highlighting overused words and suggesting better alternatives.
  • Helping me maintain a consistent tone and style in my writing.

One of the features I appreciate the most is how Grammarly provides detailed explanations for its suggestions. This allows me to not only correct my mistakes but also understand why a certain change is necessary, which gradually improves my writing skills.

My Preferred Way of Using Grammarly

I primarily use Grammarly as a Google Chrome extension, as it provides real-time corrections across various platforms without requiring me to switch between tabs. This makes my workflow more efficient, whether I’m writing a blog post, composing an email, or working on my poetry.

Although some Grammarly suggestions can be a bit confusing, I research them on Google or consult grammar resources to better understand them. This additional effort has helped me become more confident in my writing.

Examples of How I Use Grammarly

Here are a few ways Grammarly assists me during my writing process:

✅ Google Chrome Extension: Grammarly works in the background as I type, underlining errors and providing suggestions for correction with just one click.

✅ Grammar and Spelling Checks: Grammarly quickly detects and corrects typos, missing punctuation, and incorrect verb usage.

✅ Tone and Readability Analysis: At the bottom of my drafts, Grammarly provides an overall score and insights into how my writing may sound to readers.

✅ Cross-Platform Assistance: Grammarly helps me maintain error-free writing not just on my blog but also in emails, Google Docs, WhatsApp, and other online platforms.

Final Thoughts

Grammarly has significantly improved my writing by making it more polished, professional, and reader-friendly. While it is not a substitute for learning proper grammar and writing techniques, it serves as an excellent assistant for writers who want to enhance their skills over time.

If you’re looking for a tool to improve your writing, whether for blogging, creative writing, or professional communication, Grammarly is definitely worth trying. Have you used Grammarly before? Share your experience in the comments!
